Sea Life

35 creatures of rivers, lakes and seas for Minecraft Bedrock and Java Edition, and two fishing rods to catch them with. Tame a seal, ride a blue whale, watch penguins toboggan across the ice.

Which one do I need? Playing on an iPad, iPhone, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch or Minecraft for Windows? That is Bedrock Edition – take the first download. Playing on a computer with the Minecraft Java Edition launcher (Mac, Windows or Linux)? Take the Java download. Not sure? If you bought Minecraft in the App Store or Google Play, it is Bedrock.

Latest version: 0.1.0

Install

Install on iPad, phone, console or Windows (Bedrock)

  1. Download SeaLife.mcaddon on your Windows PC, Android phone or tablet, or iPhone or iPad.
  2. Open the file. Minecraft starts and imports both packs.
  3. Create or edit a world. Under Behavior Packs, turn on Sea Life. The resource pack is added automatically.
  4. Head for the water: rivers, lakes, oceans and snowy beaches, or use spawn eggs from the creative inventory.

Running a server? Use the separate behavior pack and resource pack. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch can’t import add-ons from files, but you can join a world or Realm that has the add-on. Bedrock needs version 1.21.120 or newer.

Install on Mac or PC (Java Edition)

  1. Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 26.3.
  2. Download SeaLife-fabric.jar, plus Fabric API and GeckoLib.
  3. Put all three files in your mods folder and start Minecraft with the Fabric profile.
  4. Go fishing, or find the animals and items in the Sea Life creative tab.

Upgrading to a new version

  1. Download the new version and open the file. A newer version replaces the one you have, and your worlds use it the next time you load them.
  2. Still running the old version? (or Minecraft says it is already installed): go to Settings → Storage, delete Sea Life under both Resource Packs and Behavior Packs, then open the new file again.
  3. Check the world: in the world’s Edit screen, under Behavior Packs and Resource Packs, make sure Sea Life is active. A world you imported or downloaded can carry its own old copy: deactivate it there, save, and activate the new one.

On a server, replace the add-on’s folders in behavior_packs and resource_packs with the new ones and restart it.

Java Edition: delete the old Sea Life jar from your mods folder and put the new one in its place. Keep only one version in the folder. If the new version needs a newer Fabric API or GeckoLib, update those too.

Gone fishing

Craft an Angler’s Rod (sticks, string and an iron nugget) and cast it into a river, a lake or the sea. When the bobber dips, use the rod again to strike. Then the fight begins: hold sneak to reel in, and let go when the line gets too tight, or it snaps. Every fish has its own weight, and the Fish Guide remembers your biggest.

The strongest fish (wels catfish, wolffish and swordfish) need the Sea Rod: iron, string and a copper reel. The ordinary fishing rod catches herring, mackerel, perch and friends too.

Life in the water

Two fishing rods

Cast, wait for the bite, strike, and fight the fish with the tension bar. Which fish bites depends on the water, the depth and the time of day.

Tame a seal

Feed a harbour seal or grey seal herring until it trusts you. It follows you on land and in the water, sits when you tell it to, and sometimes brings you a fish.

Ride a whale

Swim up to an orca, beluga, humpback, sperm whale or blue whale and grab its fin. Look where you want to go and it swims that way; you can breathe while you hold on.

Penguins

Emperor, king and gentoo penguins waddle about on snowy beaches, toboggan on their bellies across the ice, and huddle together at night.

Fish in a bucket

Scoop up small fish with a water bucket and let them go in your own pond or aquarium.

A food web

Pike chase perch, seals hunt herring, orcas and great whites hunt seals and penguins. A tame seal is safe.

Fish Guide

Every player gets a Fish Guide that fills in as you spot and catch new species, with your heaviest catch of each.

Spearfishing

Install Realistic Hunting as well and every fish and shark is game for the harpoon and speargun. Seals, whales and penguins are protected.

Food and gear

Cook your catch, smoke herring in a smoker for røget sild, fry plaice and put it on bread with an egg for a Danish stjerneskud.
